Inspired by the immersive magic of the Disney atmosphere, Ari Buktu combines sly humor with cinematic platforming to deliver a delightful experience. At the core, Ari Buktu is about uncovering what it means to be a kid again, adventuring, experiencing, and smiling from ear to ear.
So, we get back to the famous question. . . Why not? Why not try the demo for Ari Buktu and the Anytime Elevator?
Transported to Egypt in the 1800s by a time-traveling elevator you are met by Professor Lionel Raventhorpe accompanied by his little companion, Julius, and of course. . . Ari Buktu. Professor Raventhorpe has built this time-traveling elevator to go looking for Nefertari's Tiara from the past. Unfortunately for Ari, he drops by the Professor's office at the wrong time and gets swept into an adventure across time!
Artistically, the game’s world is meticulously crafted to immerse players seamlessly into the experience. The soft, visually pleasing textures of the landscape design, combined with whimsical character designs reminiscent of the Rayman Legends games, create a truly unique and one-of-a-kind aesthetic.
The current demo offers an exciting glimpse into what the gameplay will feel like upon full release, promising an even more polished and complete experience. During the demo, players can traverse various areas, execute parkour moves (watch your step—it’s a long way down!), solve simple yet fun puzzles, and maneuver cleverly to snag hidden collectibles.
This blend of gameplay gradually builds into increasingly intense moments as the demo progresses. It feels akin to a Disney ride, where the anticipation steadily grows until you’re immersed in a thrilling crescendo of cinematic music, fast-paced action, and an overwhelming sense of delight. Adventure Works have a masterpiece on their hands here!
The orchestral score in the demo is a standout feature that demands attention. It’s remarkable to imagine the creativity and effort required to craft such beautifully emotional music and seamlessly integrate it into the world of Ari Buktu. The music doesn’t just accompany the gameplay—it elevates it, enriching every moment and enhancing the player's experience.
As the demo progresses, and even from the beginning, there is one aspect of the game that stands out among all others, which is saying a lot considering how well everything works together. The narrative and the way the writing is conveyed between characters is unexpectedly a gift from the heavens, bringing so much joy to the world of Ari Buktu.
Unexpectedly, in the way that it has been ages since—or what seems like ages—since there’s been a game that captures the joyous moments with easy-flowing dialogue throughout. Characters converse effortlessly, from open play to cutscenes, in a witty back-and-forth banter style where there is genuinely never a dull moment.
The team over at Adventure Works is crafting a fun 4-hour, 2.5D game that’s sure to captivate anyone who loves adventurous, thrilling, yet heartwarming experiences. The demo for Ari Buktu and the Anytime Elevator is an exciting preview that will have you eager to dive in.

I have played through the demo several times now and as someone who loves indie games and bite-size experiences in a world where we need more short story-driven games, this is a must-play! Look out for the full review upon release, as well as an update if a release date becomes available.
Until next time. . . If you haven't already tried the demo yourself, go ahead—ask yourself, why not?
